Lawrence Hoo Poet

Lawrence is a poet.  His work is influenced by various experiences of growing up in and around Easton and St Paul’s, Bristol where he is exposed to a medley of culture, identity and heritage.  The impact of social imbalance on minority communities has had a deep and lasting impression on who he is and what he does.

Lawrence has a passion for storytelling across various media. He has developed short films, engaged in workshops with young people, curated exhibitions and published two collections of poetry; Inner City Tales and Hoostory.

Lawrence was appointed as Ujima Radio’s poet in residence in 2016 and since then has been working on several projects including poetry, film and a first novel.

The narrative for CARGO looks at Bristol’s and the African diaspora’s histories and legacies.

CARGO uses Bristol’s unique historical legacy to pull together the threads of self-determination which forged or even arguably led to Peaches Golding, OBE, being appointed as Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol.
