Workshop

Imagining New Financial Models for Creative Technologists

Abstract

A workshop to support creative technology development, based on work with investors, creative business and funding organisationsMany creative businesses developing new technology ideas have been able to benefit from public sources of funding. This funding structure is currently challenged by a more hostile government and increasingly difficult economic times. How might we be able to fund the development of creative technology development in a way that works for them, that understands their values, contributions, journeys, and ways of working? How might we help them to survive the development time it takes to achieve both a working prototype and evidence of a market and yet does not leave them reliant on programmes and grant? What are the financing alternatives that could both harness the cultural value they produce, whilst supporting the technology and business development process? We will consider existing forms of financing, and in an imaginative future thinking process bring them together by looking at what we can build on from•Commons creation and management•Crowd funding, bringing the power of community into funding•Investment, changes in investor types and priorities•Future funding models
