Janet Merkel Urban Sociologist

Dr Janet Merkel is an urban sociologist and post-doc researcher working at the Department of Urban and Regional Economics at Technical University Berlin. From 2015-2018 she has held a lectureship position (assistant professor) for culture and creative industries at City, University of London’s sociology department and prior to that research positions at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and Centre for Cultural Policy at Hertie School of Governance. Her research interests include new forms of work organization (co-working), creative industries, creative labour as well as urban politics and governance for culture and creative industries.
