Dr. Abigail Gilmore

Dr. Abigail Gilmore is Senior Lecturer in Arts Management and Cultural Policy and Head of the Institute for Cultural Practices, University of Manchester. Her research concerns local cultural policies, cultural institutions and their impact on place. She has a background in research management, impact assessment and evaluation commissioning, and a Phd in Popular Culture and Society which looked at the role of local music industries and communities in urban cultural development. From 2012-2018, she was Co-Investigator on Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Connected Communities ‘Understanding Everyday Participation – Articulating Cultural Values’, leading the Manchester case study. Currently she is a Co-Investigator in the AHRC Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (www.pec.ac.uk), working with the Manchester component of the Policy Unit, with a focus on place-based development and regional engagement.
